Newfoundland Yearbook and Almanac
Jump to contentPublished at St. John's from 1887-1932 by J.W. Withers, Queen's Printer.
This is a part of the long-running Almanac, which was a directory to important people and businesses of Newfoundland. It includes calendar and astronomical information, a list of civil servants and clergy and their postings, names of Members of the House and teachers, telegraph, railroad, customs and postal rates, the locations of post offices, the list of lights and lighthouses, rules for the examination of masters and mates and company information and business advertisements; every sort of fact to make a picture of life in Newfoundland in a given year.
The Almanac ran as the Newfoundland Almanac from 1828 to 1886, when the government took it over as Year Book and Almanac of Newfoundland and Labrador, and made it an official publication. Its last issue was in 1932, just before the government changed to Commission of Government.
