Agnes Marion Ayre Herbarium Artwork

Agnes Marion Ayre (1890-1940) of St. John's was an amateur botanist of great distinction. Her botanical drawings were meticulous and praised by botanists of her day. She published several books and pamphlets on Newfoundland, including a guide to wild flowers in 1937.

After her death, her Herbarium of some 2,440 pressed specimens of her own plus many additional samples making a total collection of 100,000 items, and 1,876 paintings and drawings went to Memorial University's Department of Biology , see Index Herbariorum. This site includes the botanical images.

The original drawings are held in Archives and Special Collections in the Queen Elizabeth II Library.
