This series contains original correspondence, despatches and their enclosures that were sent to the Board of Trade and to the Secretary of State
from the civil administrators at Newfoundland during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It contains reports and petitions that relate to the fishery,
trade and defence of Newfoundland. Vols. 1-20 include correspondence with the Board of Trade, 1696-1782; vol. 21 is a "Miscellaneous" volume for 1730-1793;
vols. 22-120 comprise correspondence with the Secretary of State, 1702-1844; vol. 37 is a "Miscellaneous" volume for 1783-1786; vol. 41 contains "Promiscuous Papers" for 1771-1798.
The scans of volumes 1-120 were made from the originals that are housed at The National Archives of the UK in Kew, England (formerly Public Records Office).
These scans were made thanks to a generous donation from The Honourable Dr. Edward M. Roberts. Microfilm reels of the complete CO 194 series up to vol. 303 (1922)
can be found in the Centre for Newfoundland Studies in the Queen Elizabeth II Library of Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Dr. Olaf Janzen, retired Professor of History at the Grenfell Campus of Memorial University, created a Finding Aid for CO 194 series Vol. 1-94, 151, 152 (1696-1836, 1857-1858).

This 34 volume set contains typewritten transcripts of handwritten originals of Newfoundland material obtained from British colonial files; much of it from the Colonial Secretary's Letterbook for 1780 to 1825. The years 1785-1789 are missing.
An index is present at the beginning of each volume.
The D'Alberti sisters, who made the transcriptions, were commissioned to go through the manuscript series by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in 1924-1925.

This 6 volume set contains typewritten copies of handwritten transcripts of despatches from the Governor of Newfoundland to the Secretary of State for the Colonies in the British Colonial Office, 1800-26. Volumes are organized in date order with an index at the beginning. v. 1 : 1800-1813 -- v. 2 : 1814-1815 -- v. 3 : 1816-1817 -- v. 4 : 1818-1821 -- v. 5 : 1822-1825 -- v. 6 : 1825-1826.
